Subject: HTML Issue

Hello,

I was looking for a feedback section for the forum - sorry if I've missed it. Having an issue with the post editor. It says that 'Basic HTML tags are OK' but when I use the <br> tag in the HTML editor - nothing happens. This means that all of my messages appear as one solid block of text - a little off-putting for longer-winded explanations :)

Any chance of fixing the main text editor to recognise line breaks?

Thanks.

Ooh, okay. Always the way when you report a technical error - it fixes itself ;)

Maybe this is just a problem in other sections of the forum. I shall do some more posting and see.

Hi ConsultantMGW,

Can you tell me if you're seeing the green panel with the edit controls (bold, italic etc.) or you're just seeing a plain text area?

I'm seeing the green panel. I switch to the HTML editor to enter HTML. But the programme opens on the green bar with bold/italic.

I had a slight glitch whilst trying to edit a post yesterday. I had already edited a couple without a problem, but this time, instead of opening in the text editor, it opened in the HTML side. When I selected 'Text format: plain text' nothing happened. I couldn't get back to the other editor. Bit strange. Hasn't happened since though.

I wanted to add a screenshot of this, however resizing to 10kb made it difficult to see. When you attach an image over 10kb you get an error message saying 'please correct indicated errors,' but there are no errors indicated. Might be better just to replace the error log message with: 'Please re-size your photo.' I didn't realise what it was at first :)

All the best.

Also - once you attach a document, it seems you can't un-attach it. Every time I click in the attachment location it automatically opens file manager for me to brows for the attachment. Even if I exit that, I can't delete the existing file location. I tried to remove the above file but couldn't. I would have had to exit the entire message editor and copy/paste into a new message.

Sorry - I'm being pernickety. It's just those little things that need a tweak to improve the posting process.

Generally speaking I would avoid using the HTML mode for entering text. It's really only there so that you can get rid of any extra nonsense code that appears when users paste text in from Word or similar. In fact I would hide it for everyone except myself if that was possible in the configuration.

I know that doesn't address the issues you raised, and I'll open a ticket to investigate. It seems that it's getting confused by switching between HTML and normal modes too frequently, or mabye it's that sometimes it's failing to load correctly.

I'll post back here if I find anything of any significance

Thanks very much. Any suggested fix on the line break issue? Seems to do it automatically for a first post and then not at all for replies. Though I can't say for certain as I haven't started many threads.
