Each individual or organisational subscription to StudyZone comes with the added bonus of a 30-minute phone consultation with a course trainer of your choice. It’s your chance to get free expert advice on the specific issues you or your organisation are facing.

What’s on offer?

The charity checkup offer comes with the StudyPass subscription. Every month, subscribers have the opportunity to contact by phone one of the trainers who has agreed to be part of the charity checkup scheme. Explain what challenges your organisation is facing and they'll do their best to advise you free of charge. Make sure you choose the trainer that you think is best equipped to advise you depending on the area you’re struggling in (eg fundraising, communications, strategy, governance, etc).

How the checkup works

  1. Decide on the trainer you want to talk to and check on the web page of their course or at the bottom of this page that they are part of the charity checkup scheme.
  2. Send an e-mail to studyzone@knowhownonprofit.org, telling us the name of the trainer you want to talk to and what you want to talk to them about.
  3. We will pass your e-mail on to the trainer you requested. If you are not a subscriber we will not be able to put you in touch with a trainer.
  4. The trainer will contact you via email to arrange a time to talk. The trainers will only contact subscribers whose details have been forwarded to them by KnowHow NonProfit. Your trainer will propose a few possible dates and times for your 30-minute checkup.
  5. It is then up to the two of you to schedule the check-up and carry it out.

What happens when the trainer is not available

There will be times when our trainers cannot schedule a checkup with you during the month you submitted the request. In this case, the trainer will let us know what month they have been able to schedule you in. You can then contact us with a new request, however we will only process one request per subscription at a time.

How to use the charity checkup if you have an organisational subscription

The charity checkup offer is limited to one phone consultation per subscription per month. This means that if you have an organisational subscription and someone else on that subscription has already contacted us for a checkup, you cannot apply for one until we find out whether the first request has been successful that month or not.

Cancelling your charity checkup

If you’ve registered your interest in talking to a particular trainer but subsequently changed your mind, e-mail studyzone@knowhownonprofit.org to let us know and we’ll cancel the booking on your behalf.

What your 30-minute checkup is about

You will probably spend the first ten minutes of your checkup explaining to your trainer what the problem you’re facing is so they can understand how to help. Once you’ve described your challenge, the trainer will do their best to suggest possible ways in which you can tackle it. You shouldn’t expect to solve your problem in 30 minutes, but by the end of the conversation you should have a clearer idea of your options and their impact or consequences. It is then up to you to decide on the course of action you wish to take and the trainer can take no responsibility for your actions.

What happens after the checkup

The trainer may or may not wish to follow up with an email, directing you to useful websites or some of their resources which might be of further help. If you feel you need more help and are interested in commissioning the services of your trainer at a cost, you are welcome to email them after the checkup to discuss this further. Trainers should only be contacted directly if you are looking to pay for their consultancy services.
