Hi John,
We normally tell new trustees that the time commitment is between 8-10 hours a month. But it really varies dependant on the type of trustee role. At the Young Achievers Trust we are 'practical' trustees meaning we actually carry out tasks and manage volunteers as oppose to just advising on strategic direction of a project. More traditional advisory roles maybe take less time and may only be one board meeting every 3 months.
Personally I probably spend 3 hours a week on my trustee role however some weeks I spend more and some less, it really depends on what we are working on. I help me make time for my work I normally set aside Monday evening to do a lot of my tasks for the week. This helps me build my trustee work in as part of my weekly routine.

Hi Damien, you say that you're balancing your trustee role with your busy day job. How much time per week / month do you think you spend on your trustee role? Is this typical? Am interested to know how much of your time it takes. Cheers!
